Night one of CHIKARA King of Trios is in los libros. Great show and tournament so far. All the Japanese stars were amazing, especially Akira Tozawa, Dick Togo, and, of course, Manami Toyota. Performance of the night, however, might go to Mat Classic who was pitch perfect in a losing effort with The Throwbacks. Hopefully he gets a couple more matches this weekend, especially if he takes the open challenge of Mr. Archibald Peck AKA Robert Evans. They could steal the show/weekend/year.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that the oft maligned SAT put on a career performance against Team Manami. This wasn’t their “A” game, this was another sport entirely. Props to them. The 1-2-3 Kid delivered a stellar comeback performance as well, and you could see Waltman visibly emotional as he came out to the already chanting crowd.
The brackets are shaping up in “Match of the Year” formation. In every instance, the better team won. I’m most looking forward to what Team Fist might be able to do against the Dragon Gate or Osaka Pro guys.
Toyota seemed thrilled by the entire event and was so pumped for her win that, instead of a high-five, she gave me a double palm strike as she went around the fans. After receiving much-needed medical attention I was able to give her the “Greatest of All Time” T-Shirt, which she also seemed to enjoy. We have two more days of this folks. I love Pro Wrestling.
