Saturday Morning Wrestling II – March 5th, 2011

Some of my earliest memories of wrestling involved anxiously waiting for Jem to go off so that I could kick my sister out of the living room and watch Bret Hart or Sting save the day. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, we can not just relive those moments, but do so with different, new wrestling from all over the world. Here’s another installment of Dirty Dirty Sheets’ Saturday Morning Wrestling.

ARSION – Mariko Yoshida vs Megumi Fujii

The rumor of the week centered around Strikeforce Women’s 145lb Champion Cristian “Cyborg” Santos being in talks to join the entertainment world. While it seems somewhat unlikely, a number of people very intrigued by it. If you’re one of those people you should know that the best pound-for-pound women’s fighter, Megumi Fujii, already did a bit of pro wrestling. Here’s her taking on Joshi Queen Mariko Yoshida. Yoshida herself made news this week when it was announced that she was coming out of retirement to appear on the first show of the new DIANA promotion.

RINGS – Volk Han vs. Kiyoshi Tamura

And if you like the seeing the mixing of MMA and Pro Wres, it doesn’t get better. Two masters of both sports put on a classic shootstyle match…or is it a Pancrase rules MMA fight? Can you tell? Work or shoot, it’s amazing.

AIW – Shiima Xion VS. Ricochet

More and more matches from independent promotions are finding homes on youtube. It’s a great way to promote your company when you don’t have quite as much visibility as an ROH. Ohio’s savvy Absolutely Intense Wrestling provided us with this full match featuring two buzzworthy juniors:

ACW – From Robert To Portia With Love

Another way the socialnet has changed the game is by opening the door to the new form of wrestling art known as the webcam promo. Now instead of waiting for a show or a DVD you can get the thoughts of your favorite, or usually least favorite, wrestlers right as the inspiration comes to them. While they do tend to be a bit long side, if you’re in the care masters like Jimmy Jacobs, Austin Aries, or Jon Moxley it’s best to just go along for the ride. Here’s a prime example as ACW star and new ROH member Robert Evans delivers one of the most disturbing videos you’ll see, with just words. It’s a classic tale of evil boy meets evil girl, things just don’t go well, and will end up worse.

NJPW – Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley vs Taguchi & Prince Devitt

But American Indies aren’t the only ones taking advantage. New Japan just does not stop posting great match after great match on their youtube channel. Here’s the Murder City Machine Guns, taking on Taguchi and the fastest rising star in all of wrestling, Prince Devitt.

SMASH.15 in Korakuen Hall Trailer

Not to be outdone, SMASH released this amazing trailer for their upcoming K Hall show. It has everything from Austrian hook-ups to Nietzsche quotes to Sabu tributes to Kana kicking Ohka really, really hard in the balls. If you don’t get chills watching this you may hate wrestling. Note: the beginning of the trailer is the announcement that Kushida will be  joining New Japan.

GAEA – Meiko Satomura vs. Toshie Uematsu

One of the things to love about wrestling this month is that if you want to she a bunch Joshi you won’t have to fly all the way to Japan. Toshie Uematsu will face Madison Eagles and Sara Del Rey next Saturday and Sunday on CHIKARA’s Williamsport and Brooklyn shows, respectively. You should be very excited about this, but  if you aren’t, watch this intense old school match of her versus the always amazing Meiko Satomura:

NEO – Toshie Uematsu & Ran Yu Yu vs. Ayako Sato & Mai Ichii

Need more convincing? Here’s Uematsu with her regular partner Ran Yu Yu, the original Kings of Tag Team Wrestling taking on Sato and Ichii.

NOAH – Go Shiozaki and Akihiko Ito vs. Kenta Kobashi and KENTA

It’s Teacher vs Student in this freshly uploaded chop war. The wrestling god Kenta Kobashi, with eternal badass KENTA, tries to put the new GHC Heavyweight Champ Go Shiozaki in his place.

ARSION – Ayako Hamada vs Mariko Yoshida

And one last match. We get more Mariko and a bit of Ayako Hamada who will be wrestling next Saturday in Montreal for the NCW Femmes Fatales title versus LuFisto. She was also just announced for SHIMMER on March 26th and 27th. Do not pass up a chance to see this living legend.

And that’s all we have for this edition of Saturday Morning Wrestling.
